The House by the Lake is a wooden holiday cabin in Groβ Glienicke, a small town on the outskirts of Germany. The Alexanders, a Jewish family, are forced to abandon Germany and the holiday home amidst the rise of the Nazi party. The story details the history of the house during the Second World War and onwards until it is rediscovered in 2013 by Thomas Harding, the great-grandson of the house’s builder: Dr Alfred Alexander.
