When Chang discovers a bear bile farm near her home in Vietnam, she makes it her life mission to protect and conserve the lives of wild animals within the rainforest who are being pushed towards extinction by humans and their careless actions. A young Chang teaches herself the survival skills necessary to survive, as well as documenting each rainforest animal and plant she comes across, all the while ignoring the people who believe wildlife conservation is not a suitable career for her. When Chang is finally accepted into the rescue centre as a volunteer, she is faced with her toughest challenge to date. She must return Sorya, a sun bear she raised from infancy, back into the wild. The journey they venture on together to find Sorya’s new home is relentless and tiring, but integral to the conservation project. Despite being a different species, Sorya is Chang's best friend, and letting go of a friend is never easy even when it is the right thing to do. (Words by Olivia Dodson)
